They are everywhere!
Lawyers seek them. Rabbi's find them.
And Rabbi's use them to their advantage.
The invention of the Shabbos Lamp is a loophole

and how about the ever wonderful Eruv?

Seriously? How can you be taken seriously when you come up with these crazy loopholes after placing such obsurd laws upon yourself? Seems like a mockery. I've tried explaining these things, once upon a time, to non-Jewish people and I had to stop and listen to myself. I sounded insane! First I place all these obsurdly strict rules but then I find means and ways to go around allowing me to do something that has been stated to be prohibited. Loopholes! Almost seems like a challenge to those Rabbi's.
I can just imagine it now! They sit around the table and try to figure out how to prohibit something and then try and challenge themselves in finding a loophole around it! Anyone else see anything crazy about this?

ReplyDeleteThat is far too simplistic. Issues of, for example, public carrying are incredible old. Found in the Talmud and possibly even in the Tanach. You have a public domain and a private one. Nothing complicated about that right? An eruv is simply there to expand on the private. NOW, do I think an eruv half the size of Los Angeles is a stretch? Of course. But, wouldn't you be complaining about the hardships of Jews if there was no eruv? Wouldn't you be complaining about how the law is making people's lives miserable? Wouldn't you be complaining about how rabbis are unwilling to consider changing times require some change in the law?
Isn't the whole point of an oral law to take modern situations into account? So when they do it, now you are complaining?
